Why they say Josephine
In 2017 she originated the young Josephine Baker in Black Pearl at Black Ensemble Theater. In 2026 she brought her back for Josephine's 120th birthday, one night only, feathers and dark eyeliner in a River North speakeasy.
The comparison is not a costume. It is the same recipe: a singer who dances, an actor who sings, and a performer who makes a room feel like the only place in the city. Aerie is the rare artist who can carry a Goodman stage, a house record and a supper club in the same month.
